Since the anomalies accompanying complex atrioventricular septal defects seriously affect the prognosis and survival in the optimal surgical treatment methods and their timing are crucial for these patients. Pathologies such as tetralogy of Fallot, double outlet right ventricle, unbalanced ventricular morphology, left ventricular outflow tract stenosis, double-orifice left atrioventricular valve, atrioventricular discordance, truncus arteriosus, discordant ventriculoarterial connection, and heterotaxy syndromes may accompany atrioventricular septal defect and require different surgical strategies. This article discusses the most common anomalies accompanying complex atrioventricular septal defects and the surgical approaches performed for these anomalies.
