Bronş İçi Yabancı Cisimler: Türban İğnesi Komplikasyonları

59 cases with foreign body aspiration have been admitted to our department for treatment between 1985-1993. All those cases have undergone various unsuccessful bronchoscopic attempts for the removal of the foreign bodies in different Ear, Nose and Throat departments and referred for definitive surgical treatment. When the annual distribution of such cases have been reviewed retrospectively, an increasing incidence in teenage girls have been noted since 1988.

Since fixation of scarfs with needles is a habitual fact, the design of such needles must be modified, and one end should be enlarged so that they cannot get in through the pharynx. Furthermore, when operation is needed, this should be undertaken in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery departments with latest technology ICU, operating theatre and X-ray facilities.
