Staplers are very useful in pulmonary surgery. Between January 1993 - August 1994 staplers were used in 45 pulmonary operations. 16 pneumonectomy, 12 lobectomy, 5 wedge resection and 12 bullectomy operations were applied. Resections were needed for lung cancer in 21, spontaneous pneumothorax in 12, lung nodule in 4, lung tuberculosis in 3, bronchial carcinoid and bronchectasis in 2, and hydatid cyst in 1. UKA-25, UKL-40 and UK-60 staplers were used. No complication were faced in application. One bronchopleural fistula was seen in among 33 resection applied cases (%3). Staplers achieve a secure bronchial closure with reduction of bronchopleural fistula incidence and simplify the resection of lung parenchyma.
