The surgical treatment of apical ventricular septal defects is a common problem in pediatric cardiac surgery. The most acceptable surgical approach remains controversial because of the difficulties in obtaining adequate exposure and complete closure of these defects. We present a case of apical ventricular septal defect in a 43 days old child successfully closed transatrially with the septal obliteration technique.
