Background: Although rarely seen following replacement with synthetic vascular prosthesis, diagnosis and management of seroma are quite important due to its serious consequences.

Methods: We detected seroma in 5 (5.7%) of 87 cases received peripheric bypass with a synthetic graft between 1995-2001.

Results: Polytetraflouroetylene (PTFE) had been used in these seroma cases and diagnosis was established at the first month in one case, at the second month in two cases and at the third month in two cases. For two cases femoropopliteal bypass, for one case femorofemoral bypass and for two cases arterioveonous fistula construction for dialysis access had been done. For the management, all synthetic grafts were removed; in femoropopliteal bypass cases replacement with saphenous vein graft was done, for arteriovenous fistulas a new PTFE graft was placed and for the remaining case aortofemoral bypass with a dacron graft was performed.
