There is not a single standard method to provide a safe air-way in emergency conditions. Combination of neuromuscular blockers, induction agents, and adjuvant drugs may be necessary for urgent intubation. Since all these drugs exert various effects on the cardiovascular system, special attention should be given to airway safety in cardiac emergencies. Insufficient evaluation of the underlying pathology and the use of inappropriate drugs may result in serious consequences. A good knowledge of the pathophysiology, rapid evaluation, and an appropriate pharmacological approach will make emergent intubation safer.
