Corrected transposition of the great arteries in a case full conduit occlusion: the importance of native pulmonary pathway

Correction of right ventricular outflow tract stenosis with conduits may be an effective treatment of choice, however, it may require reoperation due to conduit deformation over time. Balloon application and stent implantation are procedures to overcome conduit stenosis. An 18-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with corrected transposition of the great arteries underwent conduit placement between the left ventricle and pulmonary artery, remaining the native pulmonary artery open. During follow-up, conduit stenosis developed and balloon application and stent implantation were performed. However conduit occlusion occurred immediately after these procedures and pulmonary blood flow was maintained through the native pulmonary artery. We present this case to emphasize the importance of native pulmonary pathway maintenance.
