Infected aortic prosthetic graft material, aorto enteric fistula and poor patient state limits the indications of classical anatomical aortobifemoral bypass and thus favors the use of extra anatomical axillobifemoral bypass grafting as an alternative redo vascular procedure in aortoiliac occlusive diseases.

46 axillobifemoral bypass cases operated in the Istanbul Medical Faculty, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Department have been studied retrospectively. Distal flow patterns, graft materyal types and graft patency rates have been focused. It has been concluded that if a ringed graft was the material of choice and if the distal run-off was acceptable, the axillobifemoral bypass has as optimal results as anatomical procedures.
