Various surgical techniques are used for mitral valve replacement operations in patients who have chronic and isolated mitral insufficiency. In the recent years, after the acceptance of the positive effects of preserving the posterior leaflet upon the left ventricular functions at postoperative period, an entire preservation of the mitral valvular apparatus has been carried out. At this clinical trial, two MVR procedures, one of which is made by entire preservation of subvalvular apparatus (group I, n:16), and the other with classic technique (group II, n:16) have been compared at an early postoperative period and at the sixth month, the first group has been found out to have better left ventricular functions.
