A replacement of vena cava inferior (VCI) by an autogenous fascio- peritoneal graft for the reconstruction is tested in canine. Circulary defect constituted in the VCI was replaced by an autogenous fascioperitoneal complex. Dogs were divided into 3 groups: 1. Control group, 2. Aspirin (15 mg/kg) treated group and 3. Diclofenac sodium (3 mg/kg) treated group.

Angiographic and histopathologic examinations of interposed graft were performed. Occlusion was determined by macroscopic and angiographic examinations of the grafts in the 1st and 2nd groups, and severe inflammatory infiltration was observed by histopathological exarnination. Thrombotic occlusion while Diclofenac sodium prevented both the inflammatory infiltration developed on the anastomotic line and the developrnent of thrombus.

Because the recently described isoform of cyclooxygenase (COX), which is induced by inflammatory stimulies, is inhibited wath Diclofenac sodium but not with Aspirin in the dosts used; these results suggest that the inflammation and/or inducible cyclooxygenase (COX2) induced through inflammatory stimuli contribute to the initial thrombotic occlusion and the autogenous fascio-peritoneal graft may be an alternatif graft material for the reconstruction of the large veins.
