Clinical Results of Open Mitral Commissurotomy and Mitral Annuloplasty

Over a period of 5 years from Jun. 1987 to Dec. 1991, 383 patients with mitral valve disease were operated on at Gazi University, Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. 32 of them underwent öpen mitral commissurotomy, 20 undervvent öpen commissuroto my + mitral annuloplasty and 6 undervvent mitral annuloplasty. The age of patients undergoing reconstructive mitral valve repair ranged from 9 to 60 years vvith an average of 33.7 years.

The early postoperative mortality vvas 5.1 % (3 patients). 3 patients uffered from mild mitral incompetence in the early postoperative period. The average postoperative follow up of patients vvas carried out for a period of 30.4 months vvhich shovved no late mortality among our patients. As a late morbidity, a moderate mitral incompetence was seen in l patients (1.8%) and mitral restenosis in 2 patients (3.6%).
