Scientific publishing has evolved within the last couple of decades. The nature of scientific data has changed, the source is more international, accessibility is much more digital and the way we evaluate this data is more patient based rather than physicians. Also, the quality assessment has reached to high standards with the wide acceptance of various scientific databases and indexes. As the official journal of Turkish Society of Cardiovascular Surgery and Turkish Society of Thoracic Surgery; Turkish Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (TJTCVS) is in a period of restructuring to adopt these changes. Dr. Suat Nail Ömeroğlu has successfully completed the term of editorship for two years. As the new editor of TJTCVS, I would like to inform you about the changes in the editorial board, content and future vision of our journal to move forward.

Our managing editors will be Dr. Soner Sanioğlu in Cardiovascular section and Dr. Ayten Kayı Cangır in Thoracic section. Dr. Adem İlkay Diken will serve in a new position handling our journal"s digital media tasks. We will have a broad range of highly experienced international editorial board with the participation of valuable new members. We will also have the privilege to work with most of our previous editors in the new editorial board. Dr. Ralph Damiano and Ms. Carol Blasberg will be with us sharing their extensive experience of publishing. I would like to thank to Dr. Marko Turina, Dr. Patrick Perier and many other distinguished colleagues for their devotion to future cooperation. Our aim is to construct a harmonious and productive teamwork and bring our journal"s recognition and standards to a higher level.

Our scientific content will focus more on the visual and media materials like operative techniques. We will bring some new article topics in the content including expert comments and invited focused reviews. Some of these contents are in preparation and will be included in the next issues. Part of the scientific content will be supported by our journal"s new social media tools starting with "Twitter". I request support from all of our members especially from our young readers to participate in this activity to increase our journal"s recognition and contribute to spread the way of scientific thinking within our societies.

Accordingly, the visionary scope of our new editorial board will concentrate on rising the scientific quality and international recognition of the journal, thus moving the journal"s function and perception to a more international place than regional or national. This scope can only be achieved with the support of our partners and readers. We are open minded, looking forward to serving you for the next two years within this mentality.
