Transcutaneous Oxygen Tension Monitoring During Revascularization of the Lower Extremities

Transcutaneous oxygen tension (tcPO2) was measured at the foot of 14 patients in 20 extremities) during revascularization of the lower extremities. The levels of tcPO2 were recorded before aortic or femoral arterial cross-clamping, after clamping, and following revascularization. The mean value of tcPO2, which was preoparatively measured as 34.25 mm Hg (range: 15-65 mm Hg) in the patients who were respirated 30-35% O2 under general anaesthesia, decreased to 8.9 mm Hg (range: 3-15 mm Hg) after cross-clamping, and incerased to 77.1 mm Hg (range: 47-144 mm Hg) after revascularization (p<0.001). Based on this experience we conclude that this method may be useful for evaluateion of the immediate results of revascularization surgery.
