Effect of Fetal Calf Serum on the Fibroblast Viability of Fresh Aortic Heterografts

The present study examines the effect of fetal calf serum on the fibroblast viability of fresh antibiotic sterilized aortic heterografts.

Aortic valves of forty-two ristar rats are examined in three (control, Hanks and fetal calf solutions) groups. Each group is divided into three groups according to the time scale (48, 96 and 196 hours). Fibroblast viability is measured by fow cytometric assay.

Statistical analysis revealed better fibroblast viability especially in 48 and 96 hours. Fetal calf serum has additive effects on the viability of fibroblasts. Fetal calf serum cen be used as an alternative solution than the other ones fors fresh antibiotic sterilized aortic allografts.
