Records of 74 patients with chest wall tumors admitted to Dicle University School of Medicine Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Department from 1981 to 1994 were reviewed. The tumor originated from the bone in 22 and from the soft tissue in 38 patients. In 14 patients the tumor was related to thoracic wall metastases. Tumors originating from the bone were: chondroma (11), chondrosarcoma (6), Ewing's sarcoma (4) and osteosarcoma (1), in all but two (one chondrosarcoma and one Ewing's sarcoma) primary bone tumors we performed excisional biopsy and wide resection. in 4 of 14 metastatitc thoracic wall tumors we performed excisional and in the remaining 10 incisional biopsy. Only in 5 of these 14 patients primary source was found. 18 of soft tissue tumors were benign and 20 were malignant. In 10 of these malignant tumors incisional biopsy was performed. In the rest of them we performed excisional biopsy. All patients with malignant tumors were sent to a center for radiotherapy. In our series surgical mortality was 2 and recurrece occured in 8 patients. As these tumors are uncommon, we would like to report our 13 years' experience.
