It has been shown that aortic valve operations can be easily done through limited sternotomy as well as standard sternotomy. We report two groups of 39 patients operated through standard and limited sternotomy starting from April 1997. Both groups were statistically similar and on demographics, risk factors and clinical status. There were no significant differences between both groups on cross clamp time, cardiopulmonary bypass time the 24 hours bleeding quantities (p > 0.05 ns). Respiratory ventilation time, intensive care unit time and hospital length of stay were shorter in the limited sternotomy group (p < 0.001 s***). Atrial fibrillation rate was less in limited sternotomy group and all other complications rates were similar. Post operative rehabilitation and cosmetic results are better in limited sternotomy group. We believe that limited sternotomy operations will be increased due to enthusiasm of surgeons as well as patients.
