Arteriovenous (AV) fistulas have become the most common
way of vascular access for hemodialysis in hemodialysis
patients. While AV fistulas are primarily created in
the upper limbs in these patients, alternative locations of
AV fistulas are looked for in cases where AV fistulas can
not be created in the upper limbs. We created AV fistulas
between tibialis anterior artery and saphenous vein in three
of our five cases and saphenofemoral loop fistulas in the
other two cases. The results of these two alternative methods
were evaluated together with literature review.
