Background: This study aims to evaluate short-term outcomes of transoral endoscopic surgery in the treatment of patients with Zenker’s diverticulum.

Methods: Between December 2011 and June 2013, medical records of 10 male patients (mean age 60.5 years; range, 36 to 83 years) who underwent transoral endoscopic diverticulostomy for Zenker’s diverticulum in our clinic were retrospectively reviewed.

Results: Oral feeding was started in all patients except one at postoperative 48th hour. It was tolerated by all patients. The patients were discharged at postoperative third day. No major complication such as esophageal perforation or mediastinitis was observed in any patient. The severity of symptoms was subjectively regressed in all patients in the postoperative period.

Conclusion: Our study results indicate that transoral endoscopic diverticulostomy by endostapler is a safe and effective treatment of choice for selected patients with Zenker’s diverticulum.
