From December 1993 to May 1994, 3 patients ranging from 14 to 34 years of age, in shock due to gunshot injury were admitted to the Emergency Unit. They underwent emerency laparatomy due to intraabdominal hemorrhage. In all three patients there were infrarenal vena cava injuries in addition to abdominal visceral injuries. Following hemostasis, visceral injuries were repaired by the general surgical team. Then, vascular surgical team repaired the inferior vena cava using polytetrafluoroethyleno (PTFE) graft. In two of three patients femoral arteriovenous fistulas constructed following closure of the abdomen. These fistulas were closed in the 4th and 5th months, respectively. Postoperative oral anticoagulation was administered to all patients. In the follow-up, PTFE grafts were found to be patent although the fistulas were closed.
