Increased mortaliy rates were detected among patients who needed per or postoperative IABP (3/4-0/12; p<0.007) or vazopressing agent support (4/4-1/12; p<0.007), who had prolonged intubation period (3/4-0/12; p<0.007) and were 65 and older (p<0.01).
Although most patients with gastrointestinal complications following cardiac surgery can be treated well, especially patients who needed per or postoperative IABP or vasopresing agent support, who had prolonged intubation period, and elderly ones carry a higher risk of mortality.
