Hydatid Disease

Hydatid disease is still a common disease in our country. Lung is effected 20-25% by that parisitic infection. In this study, the results revealed from the 45 giant hydatid disease whose one diameter is longer than 10 cm. operated upon between 1984-1994 was reported.

The mean age for giant hydatid disease of the lung (25.4) was smaller than other hydatid disease of the lung (29.7). At operation 32 patients had cystotomy+capitonage, 6 had pericystectomy+capitonage, 4 had only pericystectomy and 3 had lobectomy. One paticnt died from cardiac arrest during operation. Five patients showed prolonged air leak, 3 had empyema and l had pnomonia postoperatiely. This morbidity rate (9/45, %20) was found higher than smaller hydatid disease of the lung lad (%5).
