Between 1990 and 1994, a total of 12 consecutive patients with mediastinal tumor have been operated at The Antalya Welfare Hospital. There were 7 female and 5 male patients. The age range was 10 to 70 years.
We performed total excision in 9 patients and subtotal excision in 3 patients. In additions, patch graft was required in 2 patients. in the former case with neurilemmoma, esophageal mucosal defect was occurred following resection of the tumor. Consequently, v.azigos was resected and patched to the defect as the patch graft. In the latter case with teratoma pericardial defect was occurred and required patch graft.
Histologic examination revealed lymphoma in 2 cases, neurilemmoma in 4, ganglioneuroma in 2, seminoma in 1, teratoma in 2 and condrosarcoma in 1.
