Video-asisted thoracoscopic surgery is a method used in the diagnosis and/or treatment of intrathoracis diseases. After it has been defined in 1910 by Jacobaeus, a Swedish scientist, it was used for diagnosis of pleural disease in al limited fashion. At 1990s by themodernization of the technique its eficacy increased. Today its used in the treatment of parachymal and mediastinal diseases. However an experienced team, a full equipment and further investigations are needed.
Postoperative pain, recovery and hospitalization time is decreaesd by this method. Morbidity rate is less than thoracotomy. But more attention is obligatory in resection surgery. In this study we investigated the video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery procedures and overviewed the last approaches that can be performed.
