Thymectomy plays an important role in the treatment of myasthenia gravis. The effecti-
ve surgical therapy depends on the complete removal of the thymic tissue.
We performed trans-sternal thymectomy in three female patients whose ages ranged
from 35-45 years. All of them were in the 2A group acording to Osserman's Classification.
One of these patients underwent standart thymectomy while the other 2 maximal thymecto
my respectively. In the latter group histopathologic examination of the mediastinal adipose
tissue revealed ectopic thymic foci. In the follow up of the maximal thymectomy patients,
we observed complete remission in one and reduction of medical therapeutics to half in the
other. There wasn't any considerable improvement in the standart thymectomy patient. As a
result, the preferance of standart thymectomy is not sufficient of the surgical treatment of
myasthenia gravis.
