Although the methods like ECG exercise testing have been used routinely to estimate the
cardiac complications that may occur during and after vascular surgical procedures, these
may appear to be ineffective because of the presence of peripheral arterial diseases, older
age, neurologic and locomotor problems. On the other hand, with the usage of dipyridamo
le-thallium perfusion test, ischemic heart disease can be demonstrated. We have compared a
group of vascular patients (Group 2:200) that have undergone dipyridamole-thallium test
before operation with the group (Group 1:250) that was taken directly into the theatre wit
hout the test. All of these patients have been operated in the Istanbul Medical Faculty, Tho
racic and Cardiovascular Surgery Department and our results have proven that dipyrida
mole-thallium testing diagnoses the preexisting coronary disease and thus reduces the
operative mortality.
