The prosthetic heart valve has continuously been in improvement ever since it was first succesfully introduced into cardiac surgery. Its hemodynamical performance has never reached the level comparable to natural valves. Complications due to thromboembolism and anticoagulant therapy of mechanical prosthetic heart valves constitues a problem, in bioprosthesis, the problem is the poor hemodynamical characteristics and weak endurance. These problems are related to the charasteristics of the blood flow through the valves and must be studied.

This study aims to present the Pulse Duplicator System designed and realized at TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center to investigate the hemodynamical characteristics of the heart valve prostheses and to give the result of the first mechanical prosthesis study.
