Methods: In this study, plasma hormone levels of 70 patients with thoracic trauma and 16 patients in control group who attended between March 2002 and October 2003 were detected on initial acceptance, clinical follow-up and recovery.
Results: Mean ages were 41.8 (10-71) in trauma group, 42.1 (15-69) in control group. Decrease in plasma levels of free T3 and free T4 were significant (p = 0.000; p = 0.003). In addition to this, significant increase in plasma levels of prolactin and cortizol was found out (p = 0.003; p = 0.000).
Conclusion: In thoracic trauma patients, plasma levels of some hormones increase or decrease as in general trauma, but it is diffucult to state an exact opinion whether these changes are responsible of morbidity and mortality or complications and deaths cause increase and decrease.
