Statins have been proven to prevent ischemic events in patients at risk for atherosclerotic coronary disease and after coronary revascularization. They also minimize recurrent ischemic events through improving vein graft patency, and thus decrease the need for repeat revascularization procedures in patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass grafting. In this review, the importance of intensive and early initiation of statin therapy is addressed following coronary artery bypass surgery.
