Despite over 500-years of lung resection, history, anatomic
lung resections have been succesfully performed only
since the second half of the 20th century. Several bronchial
closure techniques have been developed along with
the evolution of lung resections. Some of these techniques
are still being used today. In this article, manually performed
bronchial closure techniques were reviewed in the
light historical background, excluding the stapler closure.
Success rates and general principles of various bronchial
closure techniques were discussed.
