Alâ'im-i Cerrâhîn and Cerrâhnâme b y u nknown a uthor a re Turkish surgical treatises that were written at the end of the 15th century and at the beginning of the 16th century, respectively. The aim of this manuscript is to present these treatises and the author of Alâ'im-i Cerrâhîn, Surgeon İbrahim with special emphasis on its chapters related to circulatory system. This study is based on the handwritten manuscripts in the Library of Süleymaniye, Collection of Hekim Ali Paşa, no: 568 for Alâ'im-i Cerrâhîn, and the Library of İstanbul Archaeological Museum, no: 729 for Cerrâhnâme by unknown author. In the 3rd, 4th a nd 9 th parts of the 12th section of Alâ'im-i Cerrâhîn, entitled “cemî'i teşrîhleri beyân ider”, the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system is described and in the 13th section, entitled “tamarları ve ser-cümle tamarlardan kan almağı beyân ider”, information is given about some clinical conditions where treatment with venesection is performed. In the treatise, some information was quoted from Galen, Avicenna and Hippocrates, but some original opinions had been tossed out in it. The ninety-ninth part of the Cerrâhnâme by unknown author, entitled “Hareket ider tamarlarda olan cerâhati beyân ider” is on the arterial injuries. One of the important features of these works is that they were written with Turkish terms with only a few Arabic or Persian ones. To be known and presented to the benefit of next generations of these important historical treatises is crucial for the Turkish medical history and comprehension.
