Methods: Patients (48 females, 32 males; mean age 49.5 years; range 33 to 75 years) who received chemotherapy port catheters at the Cardiovascular Surgery Department of Evliya Çelebi State Hospital between July 2007 and July 2008 were investigated.
Results: The chemotherapy port catheters were implanted due to breast cancer (n=4; 5%), lung cancer (n=11; 13.7%), stomach cancer (n=4; 5%) and bowel cancer (n=41; 51.2%). The mean normal healing time was 8.9 days.
Conclusion: Chemotherapy port catheter implantation provides a comfortable treatment option for the patients receiving chemotherapy and despite the complications that may develop, it should be the method of choice.
