In this study, nineteen patients, who had mitral valve regurgitation diagnosed by doppler echocardiography are evaluated for of the parameters that could best reflect the severity of mitral valve regurgitation due to jet and turbulence in cine magnetic resonance images were analy/ed from tel view of a) the length of signal loss b) the total area of signal loss c) the total number of anatomic levels in which signal loss was visible d) the ratio of the length of the signal loss to left atrium anterior-posterior dimension. Results were than compared vvith echocardiographic grades reflectİng the severity of regurgitations from l to 4. To determine the best parameter, t-tests were performed that could best reflect the differcnccs of the grades reported in echocardiography. The total area of the signal loss, the length of mitral valve regurgitation and the number of levels of signal loss were effective in reflectİng the differences among the groups vvith 'p' values changing betvveen 0.05 and 0.001. Whereas, the ratio of the length of the signal loss to left atrium antcrior-posterior dimension was not effective in differentiating subsequent groups.
