The system of segmental analysis has been developed with the intention of precise and complete understanding of the congenital heart malformations. This analytic system is the examination of the cardiac chamber and vascular structures and their connections and spatial relations to each other in an orderly sequential manner considering morphological and physiological bases. The use of this terminology allows clear communication among cardiologists and cardiac surgeons. Furthermore, description of the congenital cardiac malformation in this way provides a logical framework which facilitates to plan the surgical repair.
