Ventricular aneurysm is a frequent complication of myocardial infarction. 73 patients were operated for ventricular aneurysm between January 1993 and December 1995, in our department. Among these patients, three patients with ventricular septal defect following myocardial infarction and one patient with rupture of pseudoaneurysm and tamponade had been the patients who were operated on an emergency basis. Patients were divided in to 3 different groups and also each group was subdivided in to two subgroups, such as endoaneurysmorraphy and classical aneurys-mectomy performed patients. Cardiac indices of 24 patients were calculated on preoperatie and postoperative early stages (first 24 hours). The preoperative and postoperative mean ejection fractions were compared on 20 patients by nuclear study and on 14 patients by contrast ventriculography, at the end of the first postoperative month. Functional capacities of these 3 groups were classified according to the New York Heart Assosciation Classification at the preoperative stage and at the end of the second month. 60 patients could be followed up at postoperativelyperiod and functional capacity was found as class I, in 55 patients (92%). Endoaneurysmorraphy was found superior to the classical aneurysmectomy.
