Purpose:
Mitral valve surgery requires good exposure and excellent evaluation in order to make perfect valve reconstruction.
Materials and Methods:
We performed transseptal approach (Guiraudon procedure) to inspect mitral valve and to make operation in 11 of the 31 patients who had mitral valve surgery. Preoperative values were the same in both groups. Redo valve surgery was performed in 5 of the transseptal group patients.
Results:
Cross - clamp and cardiopulmonary bypass times were not
significantly different from each other grup. There was not any postoperative complication or bleeding and arrhytmias in both groups. Conclusion:
We concluded that transseptal approach for mitral valve surgery could be used for making reconstruction in mitral valve, redo valve surgery, in patients with small left atria, and patients with mitral calcification and patients who required
tricuspid valve surgery in the same session. This procedure could be useful in order to make better and comfortable
evaluation in reconstruction procedures.
