Surgical Treatment of Left Ventricular Aneurysms and Late Results

There were 64 left ventricular aneurysms (29.1%) among 220 patients operated for ischemic heart disease at the department of Cardiovacular Surgery of Gazi University Medical School between January 1988 October 1991. 20 of the patients had aneurysmectomy and 44 had aneurysmectomy plus coronary artery bypass operation. Operative mortality was 4.6% (3 patients) and the late mortality was 3.2% (2 patients). The mean follow up was 17.1 months (2-46 mo.). During the routine postoperative physical examinations, it was observed that the functional capacity was improved in 88.5% of the patients.
