During 1999-2000 open heart and repair of pectus deformity surgery were performed simultaneously in four patients at our clınic. One patient had pectus carinatum and mitral valve insufficiency. Next three patients had pectus excavatum and cardiac problems. They were CAD, ASD+VSD and Marfan's Syndrom. Ravitchs sternoplasty technique was applied for correction of sternal deformity in pectus excavatum. The deformed costal cartilages were resected subperichondrially. The sternum was cut horizontally and retracted to the left side of the mediastinum in two patients. In one patient the mediastinum was opened with two sternal retractors depending on the type of cardiac operation. In one patient sternum was cut midsternally. After cardiac operation the sternum was shaped and realigned with steel wires to the manubrium. Steel bars were placed under the sternums for those three patients. Two patients died in early postoperative period due to the methabolic and cardiac problems. The bar was removed 6 months later The two patients are being fallowed for 1 year and 3 months The patients are doing well and have good cosmetic results.
