Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is a common
physiological single ventricle pathology. In the first stage
palliative Norwood operation, modified Blalock-Taussig
shunt or right ventricle to pulmonary artery conduit (Sano
shunt) are used. Recently, a “hybrid procedure”, combination
of bilateral pulmonary artery banding and ductal stenting,
was developed as an alternative to the surgical stage 1
Norwood palliation in HLHS patients. This procedure is
particularly reserved for high risk cases, low birth weight,
premature or unstable neonates. In this article, we report
our first HLHS patient who was discharged following
hybrid palliation and subsequently underwent a successful
comprehensive stage II repair.
