Coronary artery bypass operations are the most commonly performed heart operation. The use of arterial conduits for myocardial revascularization is not new and the use of the internal thoracic artery (ITA) graft for myocardial revascularization is superior to that
of saphenous vein grafts because of highcr patcncy
rates and a lower morbidity and mortality. in this
paper, we review the charaeteristics of arterial and
venous grafts and the problem of vein graft occlusion and the theoretical benefits of arterial grafts
and the clinical results associated with their use.
