Between June 1993 and June 1995 at our clinic a
group of 20 patients were underwent resections of
esophageal cancer, selected at random. Lugol
staining gueses done with preoperative endoscopic
and in-vitro and postoperative histopathogologic
researches were evaluated comparisingly. Not only
microscopic mucousal spreading of tumor but also
other lesions like displasmic mucous skip
metastases, multiple lesions and leiomyomas vvcre
fixed firmly by lugol staining. As a result, spreading
of lesion by endoscopic lugol staining as
preoperative and other pathological symptoms
which accompanies it were fixed. And according to
the gueses it was decided that the resection was
widely spread. During the operation the boundaries
of resections were controlled by lugol staining. When
the histopathplogic examinations which were done
postoperatively were compared, it was seen that the
results which were reached by lugol staining were
right.
