Aorto-bifemoral Bypass Surgery Using Minilaparotomy Technique : A Report Of 4 Cases

In the recent years minimal invasive surgical applications have been used widespreadly almost in every field of surgery and became a routine application for some kinds of operations. The term of minilaparotomy have been limited to abdominal incisions between 3 and 10 cm. In this paper we present 4 aortobifemoral bypass cases which were performed using minilaparotomy incision in our department between January 1997 and February 1998. In all cases revascularisation of lower extremities were performed successfully without any need for enlarging the incision. The average aortic clamp time was 12.7 minutes and the average operation period was 118 minutes. In all cases the bowel sounds were appeared in 2 to 8 hours and at the end of 24 hours oral nutrition was started. The mean period of discharging from the hospital was 4.7 days.

With the adventages of less operation time, optimal aortic exposure, ability in safe cross-clamping, less postoperative pain, less scar tissue occurance, early resumption of intestinal functions, early mobilisation and shorter hospitalisation time, we believe that minilaparotomy technique is a safe reliable methode to be used in aortobifemoral bypass operations.
