Polytetraflourethylene grafts are the most popular prosthetic grafts for hemodialysis patients in whom autogenous fistula can not be constructed. The present study reports the early results of 6 mm and 4-7 mm PTFE grafts in the femoral region between May 1998 May 1999, 22 patients in two different groups of polytetreflouroethylene grafts; 10 (6 mm) and 12 (4-6 mm) were retrospectively evaluated. 3 (%25) of 12 patients in 4-7 mm group and 1 (%10) of 10 patients in 6 mm group had early graft thrombosis. There are three late thrombosis; 1 (%10) in 6 mm group and 2 (%16.6) in 4-7 mm group. The data could not reveale a statistical difference between two groups because of insufficent numbers of patients. Although we can define higher rate of thrombosis in 4-7 mm group which may be due to flow rates. 6 mm grafts for hemodialysis in the femoral region may be a better alternative than 4-7 mm grafts.
