Tracheal rupture is complication of endotracheal intubation. Overinflation of the tracheal cuff is speculated to be a frequent cause of tracheal rupture. Our patient sustained a laceration of the trachea with massive subcutaneous emhysema and pneumothorax after endotracheal intubation. The diagnosis of tracheal rupture was confirmed by rigid broncopcopy, the patient immediately underwent a right thoracotomy and tear of the membraneous trachea was sutured. The treatment and results are discussed and the recent literature is rewieved.
