Twenty-two limbs with chronic venous insufficiency were investigated. The workup protocol included AVP measurements and ascending and descending venougraphy. AVP data failed to document perforator incompetence in 5 (p<0.05) and deep venous obstruction in 2 limbs (p=not significant). Operative procedures employed were; femoral vein valve resuspension in 11, vein valve transplant in 1, creation of an autogenous vein valve in 1, saphenous vein stripping in 3 and proximal saphenous vein ligation in 2 limbs. Almost all patients experienced symptomatic improvement, despite abnormal AVP data. It is concluded that, AVP measurements provide no practical benefit and reconstructive surgery for chronic venous insufficiency can be concluded with gratifying results.
