Minimally invasive surgery has been popularized in
the last 3-4 years and it is being widespread very
quickly. It can be used for the intrathoracic
noncoronary surgical procedures. At our clinic,
between February 1996 and October 1998 we used
this technique for 298 patients. 139 of them were
noncoronary intrathoracic surgical procedures. For
some operations we used VATS together. Hospital
mortality was zero. This technique can be used with
CPB. The most important advantages are early
extubation, mobilization and discharge from
hospital. The cosmetic advantage is the other
important thing for the young and female patients.
