In recent years there has been a trend towards operations saving lung paranchyma. Sleeve lobectomy is the most important of this kind of saving operations. Sleeve lobectomy is a
modern ideal technique for centrally located endobronchial tumors, either benign or malignant, and for selected cases of bronchial carcinoma. In our clinic from September 1993 to
September 1994 four patients (two carcinoid tumors, one hamartom and one epidermoid
carcinoma) were operated with this technique. None of the patients required angioplasty.
No mortality was recorded. In follow up, we did not observe any pathological appearance,
except for a minimal granulation on the anastomosis line on bronchoscopic examinations of
the operated patients in the first, third and sixth postoperative months.
