From 129 patients in whom the diagnosis of bronchiectasis was confirmed with bronchography, surgery was indicated in 93. From 114 patients that have undergone computed tomography, in 102 cases cystic or cylindirical bronchiectasis was confirmed but, surgery was indicated only in 79 of those. Clinical symptoms and chest x-ray have shown the some diagnosis in 27 patients, however surgery was indicated in 14 of those.
We have operated 43 of 93 cases with surgical indications. 14 pneumonectomy, 8 upper lobectomy, 15 lower lobectomy and 6 lower bilobectomy have been under taken.
We conclude that although it is generally possible to reach the diagnosis of bronchiectasis with computed tomography, bronchography is still mandatory for indicating surgery in patients with this entity.
