The effects of Desmopressin and low dose Aprotinin on postoperative mediastinal drainage in patients receiving aspirine therapy before coronary artery bypass surgery

60 patients who underwent coronary artery bypass surgery and were given aspirin in the last week prior to the surgery prospectively randomized into three groups. In group I 0,3 mg/kg desmopressin acetate were infused to the patients, in group II mini dose (2.000.000 units) aprotinin was added to the pump prime solution and group III remained as control. Mean postoperative drainage were 392±181 ml in group, I, 594±229 ml in group II and 572±363 ml in group III at the postoperative sixth hour. Those rised to 694±219 ml in group I, 950±301 ml in group II and 994±310 ml in group III at the and of the 24 hours. The mean drainage of desmopressin group was significantly lower then other groups both in the two time periods. Total blood transfusion requirement was also lower in desmopressin group then control group (2,1 vs 3,1 units).
