Management of Penetrating Injuries With High-Velocity Missiles

We reiewed 35 cases who had penetrating thoracic injuries with high-velocity missiles retrospectively in Diyarbakır Army Hospital. 15 cases were treated conservatively. Tube thoracostomy for 11 cases, late thoracotomy for 2 cases and emergency thoracostomy for 11 cases, late thoracotomy for 2 cases ad emergency thoracotomy for 7 cases were performed. 3 cases died at the hospital. Mortality rate is 8.5%. High-velocity missile injuries are seen very rarely in civilian practice. Treatment of such cases differ from other penetrating injuries of thorax.
