Pulmonary complications and mortality rate after lung resection increase, if FEV1 < 1 L/s postoperatively. Pulmonary function tests and lung scans were studied in 29 patients underwent resection pre- and postoperatively in estimating postoperative pulmonary function. No difference was present between estimated postoperative FEV1 from the perfusion scan and observed postoperative FEV1 (p = 0.5413). The correlation was present between removed lung perfusion rate and resection-related decrease in FEV1 (r = 0.5158 ve p < 0.05). Perfusion scans can be performed accurately in estimating postoperative pulmonary function.
